Precare

  • Avoid using Aspirin, ibuprofen (Advil), Motrin, Aleve, St. John’s Wort, Vitamin E, or Fish oil supplements 10-14 days prior to the procedure. These agents may increase the risk of bleeding and bruising.

  • Avoid using Aspirin, ibuprofen (Advil), Motrin, Aleve, St. John’s Wort, Vitamin E, or Fish oil supplements 10-14 days prior to the procedure. These agents may increase the risk of bleeding and bruising.

  • Please avoid taking anti-inflammatory medication, drinking alcohol, or taking fish oil tablets for the three days before your microneedling treatment, as this will help minimize bleeding.

  • Disclose any new medications you may begin using during your treatment program.

Treatments cannot be performed on areas with a suntan or sunburn. Avoid direct exposure to the sun, tanning beds 4 weeks prior to treatment. A broad-spectrum sunscreen of SPF 30 or higher should be applied to any treatment area exposed to the sun.

  • Don't Pluck

Prior to a laser hair removal treatment, patients must abstain from tweezing, waxing, or any other unwanted hair treatment that removes hair from its root. There must be hair in the hair follicle for laser hair removal to work. The laser is attracted to the melanin, or pigment, of the hair. The hair must be in its anagen, or active, growth phase.

    Don't Tan

You should also avoid sun exposure in the 4-6 weeks prior to your laser hair removal treatment. Tanned skin has extra melanin, which attracts laser energy.

    Don't Moisturize

Right before your laser hair removal treatment, avoid applying any lotion, sunscreen, perfume, or other similar cosmetics to the surface of your skin.

    Shave

Shave 1-3 days before your session. The idea is to have a nice, close shave, so that there is no hair outside the skin. It is best to have just enough hair to be visible so your laser technician knows what is to be treated.

If the area is not well shaven ready for treatment it will result in an automatic $99 charge due to delay of treatment even if you don’t proceed with the treatment that day. It may also result in cancelation of your appointment.

There may be some slight charring of the small amount of stubble that gets hit by the laser. So, if you notice an odor of singed hair, that’s normal.

  • 1. An accurate diagnosis by a physician is necessary prior to the IPL treatment.

    2. Prior to the treatment, clean the treatment area. The treatment area should be free of any makeup, creams, perfumes and lotions. Male patients should shave just prior to treatment (the pigment in your beard could increase discomfort).

    3. Discontinue sun tanning, use of tanning beds and any application of sunless tanning products one month before the treatment.

    4. Always use an SPF 30 or greater sunblock on all exposed treatment areas. Wear sun protective hats and clothing.

    5. Discontinue the use of exfoliating creams 1 week prior to the entire treatment

    6. If the patient has a history of herpes outbreaks in the areas being treated, a prescribed medication, like Valtrex is recommended for one week prior to the treatment prior to the treatment to help prevent an outbreak.

    Patients will need to have:

    ◊ A mild facial cleanser.

    ◊ A high quality sunblock SPF 30 (zinc and/or titanium dioxide >10%)

◊ A good moisturizer available for your after-care.

◊ For discomfort, a pain reliever such as ibuprofen or acetaminophen can be used. If an open area occurs or if the treatment area is inadvertently picked an antibiotic ointment, such as Bacitracin can also be applied.

  • 1. Discontinue medications or supplements that may thin your blood one week prior to vein treatments to minimize bruising and improve the success of your treatment. This includes fish oil, flax seed oil, Vitamin E, ginkgo biloba, anti-inflammatory medications (ibuprofen, Motrin, Aleve), and red wine. If you are taking aspirin electively and not upon the advice of your physician, then you may stop it for 48 hours prior to your treatment. Do not stop aspirin if prescribed or recommended by your physician.

    2. You may wish to bring a pair of shorts to wear during your treatment if you are having your legs treated.

    3. If facial veins are being treated, there may be minor bruising and/or swelling following treatment. This can typically be covered using make-up. Plan accordingly since your face may show slight evidence of the laser treatment for a week or more.

    4. If leg veins are being treated, there may be minor bruising, discoloration, and welting over treatment sites. Larger leg veins may appear bruised for a period of time after treatment. Full results can take weeks or months to be realized. Plan and schedule treatments accordingly, allowing for healing time and time for your treatment results to evolve to completion. The best time to treat leg veins are in fall, winter and spring when you are less inclined to wear shorts or be exposed to sun.

    5. Plan treatments allowing for a period of no sun exposure, vigorous activity or use of hot tubs, saunas or spas for 48 hours after treatment.

  • Avoid sun exposure including tanning beds for 2 weeks prior and 2 weeks after the treatment.

A cold compress can be applied for 10-15 minutes prior to the treatment.

Avoid pain medication such as Motrin, Aleve and aspirin 3 to 7 days prior to the treatment.

Aftercare

  • Avoid applying pressure or massaging over treated areas several hours after treatment.

Remain upright for 4 hours after treatment.

Avoid vigorous exercise and yoga for 12 hours after treatment.

Reminder: Results of your treatment may take up to 14 days to take full effect. However, many will notice results in 5-7 days post treatment.

Please call us if your symptoms appear to worsen.

  • Avoid applying pressure or massaging over treated areas for 1 week after treatment.

Avoid intense heat over treatment areas for 1 week after treatment. If consuming hot liquids such as coffee or soup, use of a straw is recommended.

Avoid vigorous exercise and yoga for 12 hours after treatment.

Avoid Aspirin, ibuprofen (Advil), Motrin, Aleve and alcohol for 6 hours after treatment.

Cool compresses may be used immediately after treatment to reduce swelling.

Please call us if your symptoms appear to worsen.

  • To ensure the proper healing environment, please following the information below.

Do not use any Alpha Hydroxy Acids, Beta Hydroxy Acid, Retinol (Vitamin A), Vitamin C (in a low pH formula) or anything perceived as ‘active’ skincare for at least 7 days post-treatment.

Avoid extended periods in the sun and apply an SPF when you leave the house

Do not go swimming for at least 24 hours post-treatment.

No exercising or strenuous activity for the first 24 hours post-treatment. Sweating and gym environments are harmful, rife with bacteria, and may cause adverse reactions.

Please call us if your symptoms appear to worsen.

  • Expectations Following Treatment: Mild erythema (redness) will be present in the treatment area and can last from a few hours up to a few days.

Treatment areas almost always become erythematous. Immediately following the procedure, patients will experience a mild sunburn sensation that may include some mild discomfort. Most patients do not feel any significant discomfort, however, an ice pack (not direct ice) maybe applied to help soothe areas with discomfort.

A cooling lotion or soothing gel may be used after Erbium Yag treatments.

It is important to protect your skin from environmental elements; therefore, a lotion with a SPF protection of at least 30 should be used daily.

A few days post procedure, patients will experience mild peeling of the skin. The peeling is similar to the effects of sunburn. Continue to follow the skin care regimen offered by your physician. Do not pick at the peeling skin, as it may lead to scarring.

    General Skincare:

Proper skin care is important to protect the new refreshed skin. Your physician will discuss a proper skincare regimen following your Erbium Yag treatment.

Clean the treated area daily with a mild cleanser. Apply a thin layer of mild moisturizer to the area several times a day until evidence of dryness, blistering or swelling has dissipated.

Shower as usual but be aware that the treated area may be a little temperature sensitive.

Avoid chlorine, hot tubs and swimming pools during the treatment program.

Avoid direct contact in the sun during your treatment program. Always use a topical sun protection of SPF 30.

Avoid the use of exfoliants, loofah sponges and aggressive scrubbing to the treated areas.

    Precautions:

Avoid exposure to the sun and tanning beds for 30 days prior to the treatment.

Do not rub, scratch or pick at the treated area. Treat the area gently. Pat skin dry after bathing or showering.

An antibiotic ointment such as Bacitracin may be applied. Neosporin and Polysporin are not recommended.

Makeup may be applied over the treated area 24 hours after the treatment

Avoid shaving the treated area for 48-hours after the procedure.

If patients have any questions, please call our office.

  • 1) Immediately after treatment, there may be mild redness and swelling at the treatment site, which may last up to 2 hours or longer. The redness may last up to 2-3 days. The treated area may feel like sunburn. Apply ice packs or gel packs (do not apply direct ice) for first few hours after treatment to reduce any discomfort or swelling. If redness or swelling persists, ice packs can be continued.

    2) Makeup may be used immediately after the treatment unless there is blistering.

    3) Avoid sun exposure until skin has returned to its normal baseline (no redness or swelling).

    4) Avoid picking or scratching the treated skin. Do not use any other hair removal treatment products or services (waxing, electrolysis or tweezing) that will disturb the hair follicle in the treatment area.

    5) Wash the treated area and pat dry for 3 days after treatment. Do not scrub.

    6) Start gently scrubbing treated area on the 4th day (ex-foliate).

    7) Anywhere from 5-10 days after the treatment, shedding of the surface hair may occur and this appears as new hair growth. This is not new hair growth, it is the shaft that was below the skin and is being expelled. It may take 7-10 days for the shafts to be fully expelled.

    8) There are no restrictions on bathing except to treat the skin gently, as if you had sunburn, for the first 24 hours.

  • 1. A mild sunburn-like sensation is expected. This usually lasts 1-2 hours but can persist up to 24 hours, individuals may vary. Mild swelling, tenderness and/or redness may accompany this.

    2. Apply ice packs or gel packs (do not apply direct ice) to the treated area for 10-15 minute intervals every hour for the next four hours as needed. A topical anti-inflammatory can be used for redness and tenderness. An oral, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory, such as acetaminophen or ibuprofen may be taken to reduce discomfort, use according to the manufacturer's instructions.

    3. In rare cases, prolonged redness or blistering may occur, if this happens please call the physician’s office. An antibiotic ointment may be applied to the affected areas twice a day until healed.

    4. Shower as usual. Treated areas may be temperature-sensitive. Avoid soaking in a hot tub of water. Avoid scrubbing, use of exfoliants, scrub brushes and loofah sponges until the treatment area has returned to its pre-treatment condition.

    5. The pigmented lesions may initially look raised and/or darker with a reddened perimeter, this is normal. It will gradually turn darker over the next 24-48 hours. It may turn dark brown or even black and will begin to flake off in 7-10 days. Rarely would it progress to a scab or crusting phase, if this happens, please call us.

    6. Veins or vascular lesions may undergo immediate graying or blanching (turning white) or they may exhibit a slight purple or red coloring. If the treated area develops crusting or a scab, it will start to flake off in 7-14 days. The vessels will fully or partially fade in about the same amount of time. Repeat treatment to veins may be every 7-14 days, or when the skin has fully recovered.

    7. Do not pick, scratch or remove any scabs. Allow them to flake off on their own. Lesions are usually healed in 7-10 days. They will continue to fade over the next 6-8 weeks after treatment.

Please keep all follow up appointments and do not hesitate to call our office if you have questions or concerns.

Until the redness has completely resolved, avoid all of the following:

◊ Applying cosmetics to the treated area

◊ Swimming, especially in pools with chemicals, such as chlorine

◊ Ocean swimming and Hot Tubs/Jacuzzis

◊ Excessive perspiration or irritation to the treated area

◊ Sun exposure to the treated areas – to prevent skin color change.

    8. Call your physician’s office with any questions or concerns you may have after the treatment.

  • 1. Avoid sun exposure and wear SPF 30 sunblock for one month after treatment on all treated areas that may be exposed to the sun.

    2. Cold compresses may be applied to reduce redness and swelling.

    3. Please call us at the first sign of persistent pain or blistering.

    4. Use support hose 20-30 psi worn continuously for three to five days. (You may purchase these at a medical supply store or pharmacy.)

    5. Treatment area should be gently washed twice per day with tepid water and mild soap.

    Post Treatment, Do Not:

    1. Exercise for three days after treatment.

    2. Use alcohol, aspirin, Advil, or any blood thinners for five days.

    3. Take hot showers, baths, use hot tubs or saunas for five days.

    Post Treatment Expectations:

    1. Expect some redness and swelling, which may convert to “cat scratch” scab for 8-12 weeks.

    2. Leg vein resolution usually takes about 8-12 weeks. At the end of this process, some vessels may be gone while others may be lighter or not affected.

  • On completion of a tattoo removal treatment, patients may experience minor discomfort and redness. This discomfort will subside quickly.

However, the redness will last for 24-48 hours. Once the redness is gone the treated area will look similar to the way it did prior to treatment. Pin point bleeding may also occur.

Patients may wash the treated area as normal.

It is recommended that the treated area be coved with an antibiotic ointment for 1-week.

The body will absorb the broken up ink and the area should be retreated every 9-weeks.

Multiple treatments may be required to achieve the desired result.

Laser Treatment FAQs

  • - How does HR work?

Laser hair removal uses technology in which a beam of light is applied to unwanted hair on various parts of the body. This light is a specific wavelength that targets the melanin—the pigment in the hair that gives it color, in the hair follicle. When the light enters the follicle, it is converted to heat energy that destroys / inactivates the follicle, preventing the hair from growing again.

There are three stages of hair growth. They are: Anagen—active growth; Catagen—a brief phase in which growth stops and resting begins, and Telogen—a resting phase in which no further growth occurs. In order for laser treatments to be effective, hair must be in the active growth stage—Anagen. Because individual hairs are at different stages of growth at any given time, multiple laser treatments are required to target all of them when they are in the Anagen stage. This is the reason that each subsequent treatment must be spaced out appropriately.

    - What is an 810 Diode?

Often referred to as the gold standard in hair removal, the Diode laser 810nm wavelength is highly reliable, has high papilla absorption, and can address a wide range of skin types, including skin types V and VI. Laser energy is selectively absorbed by melanin (brown) in the hair follicle and converted to heat, injuring the hair follicle during its growth phase to help reduction. Works best on dark black/brown hair follicles on all skin types, will not work on blonde/red/grey hairs. Studies demonstrate that the 810nm Diode’s advanced Speed Technology has the industry’s highest coverage rate and gives operators the ability to treat at 10 hertz (pulses) per second.

    - What is unique about an 810 Diode?

Diode lasers for hair removal are highly effective for terminal hair reduction and is safe for all skin types, including darker skin types, due to their longer wavelength and deeper penetration.

    - What are some indications for 810 Diode?

810nm Diode has been clinically proven to be safe and effective for hair removal. Diode lasers deliver high frequency, low fluence pulses and can be safely used on all skin types.

    - What does it do?

Diode lasers use a single wavelength of light that has a high abruption rate in melanin. As the melanin heats up it destroys the root and blood flow to the follicle disabling the hair growth permanently. When directed at a target area, the light is absorbed by the melanin in the hair follicle. By allowing only the hair follicle to be damaged, preserving surrounding tissue will make your treatment process as comfortable as possible.

    - How does the Spectrum 810 Diode from other laser treatments?

The 810 Diode on the Spectrum laser has built-in contact cooling to protect the surface of the skin, making the treatment a comfortable, pain-free experience for patients.

    - What to expect?

Hair grows in cycles, making it necessary to receive a series of treatments. This varies from patient to patient. Each treatment is spaced between 4-6 weeks apart and a minimum of 6 treatments is recommended.

    - Pre-treatment -

Please shave 12-24 hours before (all treatments). Do not tan for two to four weeks prior (technician will advise).

Remove all makeup, lotion, and deodorant. Do not wax, thread, or tweeze for two to four weeks prior. A thin layer of gel is applied to the skin to allow for a smooth glide of the handpiece. A gentle warming sensation of the skin will be apparent and very tolerable. Shave one day before treatment, do not pluck or wax. Avoid sun exposure for approximately 4 weeks prior to treatment, tanned skin has extra melanin (pigment) which attracts laser energy from targeting the hair follicle.

    - Post-treatment -

There is no downtime associated with this treatment and patients may resume their normal activities. Avoid picking or scratching skin, do not use any other hair removal during treatment (waxing, electrolysis, or tweezing).

Wash and pat dry for 3 days and on the 4th day start gently exfoliating. SPF is always recommended post treatment. Be advised that treated hair can take one to two weeks to be excreted from the body, and to fall out.

Feel free to shave between treatments. Do not wax, thread, tweeze, or use depilatory products—this will remove the hair follicles, making it impossible to remove the hair with laser. Do not exercise, take hot showers, or use hot tubs or saunas for 12-48 hours.

    - How long does a treatment take?

Depends on size of area, each area can take 10-15 minutes.

    - Will I need to take time off?

    No, there is no downtime.

    - When will I see results? How long do they last?

You can begin to see hair fall out in approximately 1-3 weeks post-treatment. Laser hair removal can only damage hair that is in its active growth stage. Although hair will appear thinner and less noticeable with just one treatment, you’ll need to return for multiple follow-up appointments to see optimal results. After optimal treatment sessions of laser hair removal, you can enjoy long-lasting hair reduction. Hair removal is not 100% permanent and hormones play a role in hair growth cycles, which may decrease depending on age. Hair that comes out of being dormant after several years will need to be treated.

    - How many treatments will I need?

    Recommended a minimum of 6.

    - Can I exercise?

    Yes.

    - Are there any side effects?

While extremely uncommon, adverse effects were defined as: discomfort, damage to the natural skin texture, scarring, excessive swelling, blisters, bruising.

    - Is it safe?

Yes, 810 Diode for hair removal has been clinically proven to be a safe method for all skin types.

    - How much can a procedure cost?

Treatment costs based on area and quantity of sessions.

    - Who is a good candidate?

    Anyone with unwanted hair.

  • - What is Erbium? -

Erbium:YAG uses a 2940nm wavelength for skin resurfacing. The Erbium:YAG on the Spectrum is fully ablative and customizable, having the ability to resurface skin from 10 to 100 microns.

    - What is unique about Erbium? -

Because water is such a critical component in the epidermal and dermal tissue, the 2940 nm wavelength produced by Erbium:YAG lasers is capable of rapidly vaporizing water residing in the skin. This unique wavelength delivers an almost instant skin ablation while limiting heat damage in the surrounding area. Unlike CO2, Erbium is a more superficial skin resurfacing tool for polishing the skin. The Erbium:YAG laser is capable of achieving superior resurfacing results, while offering many advantages to the patient, e.g., reduced anesthetic requirements, shorter healing time, reduced erythema, less risk of pigmentary change, and more flexibility for facial skin resurfacing.

    - What are some indications for Erbium? -

Erbium-YAG lasers have been used for laser resurfacing of skin. Example uses include treating acne scarring, rhytids, skin texture, and melasma. An Erbium Laser Peel can be very successful at reducing or eliminating these conditions, and, in fact, it is the best way to address the problematic lines that occur around the mouth and eyes.

    - What does it do? -

Erbium:YAG laser skin resurfacing is an effective technique for minimally invasive and effective management of many cutaneous conditions and lesions. Its main indications include treatment of photoaging, rhytids, wrinkles, and solitary benign and malignant cutaneous lesions.

    - How does Erbium differ from other laser treatments? -

Unlike a CO2 laser, an erbium laser is a gentler approach to the skin, hence why it is named the “micro laser peel.” The erbium laser is usually more of a superficial treatment than a CO2 laser and will help treat fine lines, some hyperpigmentation, and mild scarring.

    - Does it help anti-aging / stimulate collagen? -

Ablative and non-ablative Erbium laser resurfacing stimulate collagen reorganization and fibroblast activation in photoaged skin. Ablative resurfacing, as on the Spectrum laser, will yield more significant results in a shorter period of time.

    - What to expect? -

Topical numbing cream is typically used to help mitigate any discomfort. Mild erythema (redness) can last a few hours up to a few days depending on the severity of the treatment. Mild sunburn sensation that may include some mild discomfort may persist for up to 24-48 hours. Patients may use ice to sooth areas of discomfort. A few days after mild peeling of the skin will begin, do not pick.

    - How does it feel? -

The Erbium laser provides a safer, more accurate and less painful method of restoring a softer, smoother, more youthful-appearing skin. Patients can have their procedure performed in the doctor’s office and be home that same day.

    - Pre-treatment -

Cannot be performed on tanned skin, please stay out of the sun. Avoid direct exposure to the sun / tanning beds 4 weeks prior to treatment. Wear broad spectrum SPF, pretreat if prone to cold sores.

    - Post-treatment -

Clean the skin with a gentle cleanser and apply recovery balm several times a day until evidence of dryness, blistering, or swelling has disappeared. Can be a little temperature sensitive. Avoid exfoliants, scrubbing, chlorine, hot tubs, and swimming pools while healing.

    - How long does a treatment take? -

Average treatment takes approximately 20 minutes.

    - Will I need to take time off? -

Recovery times will vary depending on your treatment. Skin should start sloughing off 2-3 days after the treatment, a rosy “glow” can remain for several weeks. Make-up may be applied to minimize redness. Generally, 2-3 days off should be sufficient, 3-5 days for more aggressive treatments.

    - When will I see results? How long do they last? -

The top layer of skin will re-grow and can be covered with makeup within about one week, at which time you will see noticeable improvements in your skin’s texture, tone, and wrinkle appearance. Deeper laser treatments also stimulate the growth of new collagen over the next four to six months.

    - How many treatments will I need? -

Number of treatments vary depending on desired results. Recommended 1-3 sessions, treatment once per month.

    - Can I exercise? -

Use soft cloth and soft towels to avoid any scrubbing. When showering, avoid getting shampoo directly on the treated area. Avoid strenuous exercise and sweating until after skin has healed.

    - Are there any side effects? -

Mild complications of Erbium:YAG laser resurfacing include milia, acne exacerbation, contact dermatitis, or perioral dermatitis. Moderate complications include prolonged erythema, transient post treatment hyperpigmentation, and delayed hypopigmentation.

    - Is it safe? -

Yes, Erbium:YAG treatments have been proven to be safe and effective for the right patient.

    - How much can a procedure cost? -

Treatment costs vary from $500 up to $1000 per session.

    - Who is a good candidate? -

Patients with realistic expectations and mild to moderate skin conditions. If you have fine lines or wrinkles around your eyes or mouth or on your forehead, shallow scars from acne, or non-responsive skin after a facelift, then you may be a good candidate for Erbium Laser Resurfacing.

  • - What is IPL? -

Intense pulsed light (IPL) is a cosmetic skin treatment. People may use it to reduce the signs of aging, pigmentation, vasculature, reduce acne, or remove unwanted hair. An IPL treatment uses the power of broadband light to deliver pulses of intense light to penetrate the layers of the skin. Most patients describe experiencing a fast, pinching sensation during treatment, with minimal discomfort. There is no need for injections or incisions, giving patients the bonus of no downtime required.

    - What is unique about IPL? -

Unlike lasers, an IPL device sends out more than one wavelength of pulsating light. It can treat a range of skin conditions at the same time. After IPL, you may look younger because your skin tone is more even. While laser therapy uses a set wavelength depending on the procedure, intense pulsed light therapy uses multiple different wavelengths of light released in pulses. You can think of it as a strobe light passing along the skin. IPL isn’t a focused beam like a laser. It instead is dispersed beams of light that work together. As the light penetrates down to the second layer of skin, it allows the cells to absorb its energy, heat up, and eventually destroy the pigmentation within the cell. This is how age spots, other discoloring blemishes, moles, birthmarks, and rosacea are diminished.

    - What are some indications for IPL? -

Skin tone, wrinkles, photoaging, skin rejuvenation, photo-facials, sun damaged skin, uneven pigmentation, scars, spider veins, vascular lesions, rosacea, acne, and hair reduction.

    - How does it work? -

IPL works on the same principles as laser in that light energy is absorbed by targeted cells (chromophores) with color in the skin. The light energy is converted to heat energy, which causes damage to the specific target area. IPL systems are different to lasers in that they deliver many wavelengths (or colors) in each pulse of light instead of just one wavelength. This technology use filters to refine the energy output for the treatment of certain areas. This enhances penetration without using excessive energy levels and enables targeting of specific chromophores (skin components that absorb light). The light heats cells in the skin and breaks them down. The body then removes the damaged tissue naturally.

    - Does it help anti-aging / stimulate collagen? -

IPL will stimulate collagen growth by treating a deeper layer of skin, while improving texture, and reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

    - How does it feel? -

During the procedure, people may feel a pinching sensation. Some individuals have described this as a feeling similar to an elastic band being “snapped” on the skin. Sensation is moderate and very tolerable.

    - How long does a treatment take? -

Average treatment takes approximately 30-45 minutes.

    - What to expect? -

    • Your skin may be temperature sensitive for several days after treatment. Brown spots and freckles will appear darker while healing.

    • It should take 4-6 weeks to see the full result and 2-3 treatments may be required to achieve an optimum result.

    • The sessions are designed to provide no downtime however, occasionally you may find that your cheeks and under eye areas are slightly puffy after treatment. You may use cold compresses (5 minutes on and 10 minutes off) several times an hour to help ease both redness and swelling.

    • Sleeping with your head elevated for the first night will also help decrease any swelling you may experience.

    • Redness around the treated area for a few hours to days.

    • Freckles and age spots may darken for three to seven days before starting to fade.

    • Skin flaking for up to 10 days.

    • Minor bruising that may last two weeks or less.

    - What to avoid after IPL -

    • No hot showers for 48 hours.

    • For 2 days after a treatment avoid taking aspirin, Ibuprofen, drinking alcohol, heavy exertion and activities which may cause skin flushing.

    • Avoid harsh topical products such as retinols and glycolic acid products for one week after each session.

    • Avoid direct sunlight on the treated area and use a sunscreen with SPF 30 or greater for 4 to 6 weeks after treatment.

    • No swimming for a week, especially in pools with chemicals such as chlorine.

    • No strenuous exercise for 48 hours. You can hit the gym after about 2 days post-therapy.

    • No hot tubs or Jacuzzis for 48 hours.

    • Avoid activities that cause excessive perspiration for 24 hours.

    • Do not pick at or remove any loosening or peeling skin.

    • No electrolysis, facial waxing, or depilatories (hair removal products) for 14 days after a treatment.

    - Before your appointment -

    • It is imperative that you avoid significant sun exposure and tanning beds for at least 4 weeks prior to your treatment.

    • Avoid applying self-tanner for 2 weeks prior to treatment.

    • Avoid aspirin and Ibuprofen for one week prior to your treatment. Inform the doctor if you are taking blood thinners or regularly take aspirin or ibuprofen.

    • Inform the doctor if have taken Accutane (oral acne medication) in the past year.

    - Pre-treatment, day of appointment -

    • If possible, arrive without creams or make-up on the treatment area. Otherwise please arrive 10 minutes prior to your appointment in order to clean the skin. Cleansing products are available for your convenience.

    • Allow approximately 45 minutes for your appointment depending on the size of the treatment area.

    • Pre-treatment photos will be taken.

    • Just prior to treatment, you will be given eye shields or glasses to wear to protect your eyes.

    - Post-treatment -

    • Use mild cleansers and moisturizers.

    • Avoid Aspirin, Ibuprofen, alcohol, heavy exertion and activities which may cause flushing for 2 days after treatment.

    • Avoid harsh topical products such as retinols and glycolic acid products for one week after.

    • Avoid direct sunlight on the treated area and use a broad-spectrum UVA/UVB sunscreen of SPF 30 or greater for 4 -6 weeks after your treatment.

    • Anticipate some social downtime following your treatment.

    - Will I need to take time off? -

The short answer is no. Healing after an IPL treatment varies with the patient although in most cases takes less than a week and as little as a few hours to days. Immediately after the treatment you may notice some minor

redness and swelling, similar to that of a sunburn. Ice packs or a cool washcloth can be used as needed. If treating freckles and other dark spots, you may experience dryness and flaking of the treated area. Some of the spots may appear darker, but they should slough off within a few days. You can apply makeup immediately after an IPL treatment if desired. Avoid heavy exertion and activities which may cause flushing of the skin for three days after treatment.

    - When will I see results? How long do they last? -

Pigment: It will take four to six weeks to see the full results from a single treatment, however you should see dark spots fade and slough off within a week. If you complete a series of treatments about one month apart, the maximum results will be visible in two to three months after the last treatment.

Veins: The results of IPL begin to appear right after treatment and continue to improve over the next few days to weeks. It does take some time for veins to fully collapse and be reabsorbed by the body, so full results cannot be seen right away. If symptoms accompanied the spider veins, they are usually relieved immediately after treatment.

    - How many treatments will I need? -

Depending on the indication of treatment, for best IPL results it is generally recommended that patients receive, on average, 3-4 treatments scheduled four weeks apart.

    - Are there any side effects? -

Mild complications of IPL include: Redness, swelling, light bruising, itching, peeling, and scabbing.

    - How much can a procedure cost? -

Treatment costs vary from $350 - $500 per session.

  • - What is a Long Pulsed YAG (LPY)? -

The 2940nm Long Pulsed YAG Laser allows the practitioner to precisely treat visible vessels, broken capillaries, spider veins, and vascular lesions by using laser energy. The treatment is tailored to match one’s skin condition and desired result. All skin areas can be treated with the LPY laser.

    - What is unique about LPY / What does it do? -

The Spectrum’s long pulsed Yag laser will diminish the appearance of existing veins on the face and legs. Once the laser light is applied to the skin, it enters the vein, where the energy from the laser is absorbed and the vein walls collapse and seal shut, eliminating the vein’s appearance on the skin. Eliminating veins with the long pulsed Yag laser is quick and effective.

    - How does it work? -

The laser gives energy to the skin, which is absorbed by blood vessels, scars, port wine stains, hemangiomas, and other vascular lesions. This relatively quick, comfortable procedure can eliminate blood vessels by precise tissue heating, i.e. energy is directed against the vessels alone and does not alter the surrounding skin. Usually, the vessels collapse during the treatment session, but there can be some post-treatment redness and swelling. Following treatment sessions with aggressive sun protection practices can produce longer-lasting results and prevent formation of similar lesions.

    - What are some indications for LPY? -

Treatment of vascular lesions such as telangiectasias, spider veins, hemangiomas, and leg veins.

    - What to expect? -

Discomfort is minimal and is usually compared to the “snap of a rubber band.” Multiple treatments may be required to achieve your desired result.

    - Pre-treatment -

Discontinue any medications / supplements that may thin your blood unless prescribed by doctor. You may wish to bring a pair of shorts to wear during your treatment if having your legs treated.

    - Post-treatment -

Depending on the area treated, some swelling and irritation may occur. However, most treatments have little to no down time and few side effects. Avoid sunlight and use sunscreen or antibiotic ointments to promote healing and prevent damage. Anti-aging skin care products may be prescribed by your doctor. If a scab forms, it should not be picked or scarring may occur.

Do’s – Cold packs to reduce redness/swelling, use SPF, wear compression garment/support for 3-5 days as needed (best results with longer wear).

Do not’s - exercise for 3 days, take hot baths/showers, use hot tubs/saunas or have any alcohol/blood thinners for 5 days.

    - How long does a treatment take? -

Depends on size of area, each area can take 15 minutes or less.

    - Will I need to take time off? -

    No, there is no downtime.

    - When will I see results? How long do they last? -

Best results to be seen after 1-2 treatments. Leg vein resolution usually takes 8-12 weeks. At the end of this process, some vessels may be gone while others may be lighter or not affected. Can be a series of treatments for some veins. Additionally, the further down on the body, the more stubborn veins can be to disappear.

    - How many treatments will I need? -

    Recommended a series of 3.

    - Can I exercise? -

    Yes.

    - Are there any side effects? -

Discomfort, skin irritation, discoloration, sensation of mild sunburn. Sometimes the pigment cells can be damaged leaving darker or paler patches of skin. White patches or scars are rarely permanent.

    - Is it safe? -

    Yes, for skin types I-III.

    - How much can a procedure cost? -

Treatment costs based on area and quantity of sessions.

    - Who is a good candidate? -

Candidacy for long pulsed YAG laser treatments are dependent upon many factors, including age and overall health, the extent of your spider or varicose veins, your symptoms, your goals, and what your provider expects your condition to be in the future. However, the most common candidates are those with cherry angiomas, matted and superficial vessels, or visible spider veins.

  • - What is Tattoo and Pigment Removal? -

The “Q” in Q switched laser treatment stands for “quality.” A Q switched laser pulses high power laser beams with such precision that they don’t have any thermal interaction with tissues. This means that it produces minimal damage to surrounding tissues internally and targets only the tattoo ink pigments. An added benefit of this is a quicker and less complicated healing time. The Q Switched laser has been determined as a gold standard for tattoo removal. It works by producing extremely short pulses of high energy light. The light is then absorbed by the particles of the tattoo pigment but doesn’t get absorbed by the surrounding skin. The tattoo pigment then heats up and starts to break down into small particles. A Q-Switch laser may also be used to treat pigmented lesions including age spots, freckles, sunspots and some birthmarks, it targets the melanin in the superficial layer of your skin. When the pigmented lesion absorbs the light energy from the Q-Switch Laser it gets converted into heat.

    - What is unique about Q-Switched Tattoo Removal? -

A Q-switched laser is the only technology that is able to penetrate down to the dermis and shatter tattoo ink (via photo acoustic waves) without causing damage to the surrounding skin tissue. All other methods either aren’t capable of reaching and destroying the ink or cause too much damage to the skin, resulting in scarring. The 1064nm and 532nm cover over 80% of tattoo colors.

    - What are some indications for Q-Switch? -

Tattoos, pigmented lesions including age spots, freckles, sunspots, and some birthmarks.

    - What color tattoo’s can be treated? -

Good - Black, Blue, Dark Blue, Dark Green, Brown, Red, Purple, Orange.

Difficult – Tan, Yellow, Bright Green, Sky Blue.

    - What to expect? -

The laser tattoo removal itself may not be uncomfortable but discomfort is a normal response during treatment and recovery. The targeted areas will feel tender and sensitive to touch due to swelling and blistering thereafter. Once these effects subside over the next few days, so does the pain. Immediately after treatment, you will notice frosting on the area where the laser came in contact with the ink. It is caused by the rapid local heating of skin pigment releasing carbon dioxide on the surface of the skin which resembles white frosting. This signals the first stage of healing and it lasts for only a few minutes. More frosting occurs with dark ink compared to lighter ink. This is accompanied by swelling around the treated area. Redness, tenderness and swelling usually subside a day or two after treatment. Blisters start forming within 24 hours after treatment and they may appear alarming, but these indicate that your body is healing as it should. Avoid picking on your blisters because they will drain on their own and dry into scabs. The crust will eventually fall off within 10-14 days after treatment granted that the area doesn’t get irritated. One may even return to your usual activities shortly after treatment. The area will be bandaged to keep it dry for a few days following the treatment.

    - How does it feel? -

Laser tattoo removal typically does involve some level of pain. That said, many say that it hurts less than they expected. It’s a common belief that tattoo removal is excruciating, yet most patients say that the sensation of removal is comparable to having a tattoo applied. Common descriptions include the sensation of a rubber band snapping against the skin or bacon grease – basically it’s uncomfortable but bearable.

    - Pre treatment -

Avoid sun exposure / tanning beds for 2 weeks pre and post. Avoid pain medicine, such as Aleve, Aspirin for 3-7 days. Topical numbing cream or local anesthetic may used and cold compress may be applied a prior to treatment.

    - Post treatment -

Keep out of the sun, out of pools/lakes/bath water until healed. Apply recovery balm and keep it covered for 5-6 days while healing. Apply ice 10 minutes post treatment.

    Basic reminders:

    • Use sunscreen to protect the treated skin which is particularly sensitive to sunlight following treatment.

    • Don’t apply makeup or any potentially irritating product on treated skin while it heals.

    • Avoid shaving treated areas unless the skin is healed.

    • Don’t soak in baths, hot tubs or pools unless the skin has healed completely.

    - How long does a treatment take? -

Depending on the size of the treated area(s), after numbing, treatments can take several minutes up to an hour.

The number of sessions needed to remove a tattoo depends on three factors: the age of the tattoo, the color of the ink, and the density of the ink.

    • Age: Older tattoos can be removed with fewer treatments than newer tattoos. A black ink tattoo that is 10 years old may take one or two treatments fewer than a 1 year old black tattoo. A 20 year old tattoo may take two to three treatments fewer than a 1 year old tattoo, but it’s easy to remove if your tattoo is brand new (1 month old).

    • Color: Certain colors are more easily removed than others. Black and red tattoos are the easiest to remove. Orange, yellow, pink, and other shades are slightly more difficult to remove. The most difficult colors to remove are light green, light blue, and teal/turquoise.

    • Location: Because tattoo removal depends on the body to flush away the shattered ink particles, areas of the body with less circulation often take more time to show results. The toes, fingers, ears, and nose are areas that may show slower results.

    • Ink Density: Shading in a tattoo is easily removed. Some tattoos with letters use shading to fill in the outlines of the letters. Some tattoos with certain designs use shading for clouds or other visual effect. Shading will be removed in only a few sessions in most cases.

    - When will I see results? How long do they last? -

The sessions are spaced six to eight weeks apart, which allows your skin to process the treatment. Many people start to see their ink fade slightly after each subsequent session and greater improvement after three appointments. Given six to eight weeks between each session, you can expect the results to start showing a few months after the process starts.

    - How many treatments will I need? -

    Recommended 6-10 treatments.

    - Can I exercise? -

    Yes.

    - Are there any side effects? -

There are a handful of symptoms you might see post-treatment such as blisters, swelling, raising of the tattoo, pinpoint bleeding, redness, temporary darkening, hypopigmentation, hyperpigmentation, and bruising. These are common and usually subside within a couple weeks. As always, consult your doctor with concerns.

    - Is it safe? -

    Yes.

    - How much can a procedure cost? -

In general, it costs about ten times as much to get a tattoo removed as it costs to have it applied, so there may be some sticker shock for a handful of patients. You should feel confident in your pricing – you are providing a valuable service that requires highly specialized equipment.

    - Who is a good candidate? -

Patients with realistic expectations with tattoo’s or pigment that mirror the optimized colors above.

Bodysculp

  • - What is BodySculp? -

The BodySculp is a body-contouring device with four diode laser applicators that targets and delivers energy to adipose tissue while avoiding harm to the skin surface. The laser energy penetrates the hypodermis and disrupts fat cells which are then eliminated by the lymphatic system. The BodySculp’s fat reduction procedure is safe and effective while being as comfortable as possible for patients. Ideal areas include under the chin, abdomen, love handles, and inner/outer thighs. After a thorough consultation, patients will have a treatment plan to follow for an ideal outcome. The best results are accompanied by a good diet and regular exercise.

    - What is laser lipolysis? -

Laser lipolysis is a non-invasive form of body sculpting that removes small fat deposits using energy. Like surgical liposuction, this procedure permanently removes fat cells from your body. It’s much less painful than sugery and laser lipolysis recovery is also shorter and less complicated. Laser lipolysis uses laser energy delivered through an applicator, delivering heat into fat cells. The fat cells are preferentially heated and disrupted without impacting structures or other types of cells in the skin.

    - What is unique about BodySculp and benefits of the technology? -

    BodySculp offers:

    • BodySculp is a great option for anyone that has stubborn fat that they would like to reduce

    • Customized treatments to meet your patient’s goals

    • Treat multiple areas in one session

    • Non-Invasive

    • No Downtime

    • Clinically proven Diode laser technology

    • Four Large applicators covering more surface area for faster results

    • Quick 25-minute treatments of intermittent heating and cooling

    • High patient comfort and satisfaction

    - What is the BodySculp indicated for? -

The BodySculp is an FDA-cleared laser device for non-invasive lipolysis of the abdomen, flanks, back, inner thighs, outer thighs, and submental area.

    - What does it do / how does it work? -

The BodySculp applicators wrap around you like a belt and deliver 1060nm diode laser energy that reaches a temperature of 42 - 46 ° C (107 ° F - 116 ° F). This is hot enough to kill fat cells underneath the skin while leaving other tissues unharmed. Research shows that up to 24% of fat in any of these given treatment areas can be destroyed for good with BodySculp.

    - What to expect & how does it feel? -

During treatment, patients experience an alternating sensation of warmth from the laser and coolness from the built-in cooling system which keeps your skin comfortable. Patients describe feeling a slight tingling and minor discomfort, but most people tolerate it quite well. Treatment sessions last about 25 minutes.

    - How many treatments will I need? -

On average, most patients will need 3 treatments spread 4 weeks apart. The number of treatments can vary depending on the patient and amount of fat cells in that specific area. We recommend speaking with one of our experts to get the best course of treatment for your needs.

    - Can I exercise? -

Yes, patients may resume normal activity following treatment.

    - What results can I expect? -

Immediate results should not be expected. While BodySculp is an easy way to reduce unsightly bulges and areas of unwanted fat, results are not apparent right after leaving the practice. You can expect to start seeing results in about six weeks, with final results visible 12 weeks after the last treatment. One can expect the results to be permanent. However, new fat cells can form if you don’t stick to a healthy diet and exercise routine. BodySculp is a fat-reduction procedure but not a weight-loss tool. Diet and exercise is encouraged to improve and maintain positive results.

    - How long do the treatments take? -

    We recommend 25-minute sessions.

    - Will I need to take time off? -

No, there should be no downtime from the treatment. Most patients go about their day right after a BodySculp session. You’re encouraged to drink plenty of water and massage the treated areas gently in the 24-36 hours following treatment. Otherwise, you have no restrictions on activity.

    - Is it safe? -

    Yes.

    - Are there any side effects? -

Side effects are minimal. These may include tingling, soreness, swelling, and redness immediately after the procedure but subside within 24-48 hours.

    - Who is a good candidate? -

People who exercise regularly and have a healthy diet but are unable to get rid of stubborn fat are good candidates for BodySculp

Micro-needling

  • What are the benefits of microneedling and collagen?

The benefits of microneedling for your skin are profound - microneedling and collagen stimulation will result in your skin looking fresher, younger, bouncier and with a beautiful ‘glow’ from within.

Your skin will also experience a reduction in fine lines and wrinkles, lessened hyperpigmentation, improved acne scars and stretch marks and an overall improvement in tone and texture.

You will also love the added benefit of product absorption. When microneedling, the thousands of tiny microchannels created in your skin allow for direct product penetration.

This means that your skincare products (such as serums and creams) will be better absorbed by your skin and have even greater benefits than if you were to apply the product atop your dry, untreated skin.

    How does microneedling work?

Microneedling creates tiny micro-channels in the skin. These tiny micro-channels stimulates the skin's healing response, which increases collagen production and elastin. This new collagen and elastin production forms a new layer of skin tissue that's firmer, and more youthful in appearance.

Am I a good candidate for collagen induction therapy?

There are some contraindications with microneedling - as there are with any treatment - that you should take into consideration to decide if collagen induction therapy is right for you.

You may wish to approach microneedling with caution of you are susceptible to keloid scarring or raised scarring, if you have a history of eczema or psoriasis, if you have a history of Herpes Simplex infections, if you have diabetes or if you have persistent warts/moles.

If you have any of the following, you should not proceed with microneedling: treatment with Roaccutane (acne treatment), Sceleroderma, collagen vascular diseases, blood clotting problems (such as haemophilia), active bacterial or fungal infections (including Herpes Simplex), immuno-suppression, facial fillers (such as Juvaderm) in the last 6 months or Botox in the last 2 weeks.

How many microneedling treatments will I need and when will I see results from microneedling?

Everyone’s skin is different, so the number of treatments that you’ll require will vary depending on a number of factors including your skin’s history, your genetics, your current skincare routine and the severity of any skin concerns that you’re looking to treat.

As a very general guideline, 3-5 treatments performed every 6-8 weeks will give you great results. Microneedling can then be continued every 6-8 weeks to maintain your results.

Dramatic visible results are evident between 5-8 weeks after your microneedling treatment, however you’ll also see an immediate ‘glow’ just after treatment. You’ll soon become addicted to this beautiful glow!

One of the most exciting things about collagen induction therapy is that your results will continue to improve over the next 12 months as the new elastin and collagen settles in your skin and rejuvenates your complexion.

What is the downtime of collagen induction therapy?

Your skin will most likely be red and flushed (similar to a mild sunburn) immediately after treatment.

You may also experience some tightness and sensitivity to touch, which will reduce over the following few hours after your treatment and completely resolve by the next day.

You may experience slight redness for a few days post-treatment. Your skin is likely to feel a little dry and flaky for 3-5 days post treatment, which is due to the accelerated cellular turnover that microneedling triggers.

    48 Hours After Microneedling

Optional: If you have dry and flaking skin, you can gently exfoliate to speed up recovery. Do not use a chemical or harsh physical exfoliant; opt for a washcloth.

And if your skin feels sensitive, do not exfoliate yet; it will subside soon. Continue to hydrate the skin twice per day.

    3-5 Days After Microneedling

Apply high protection sunscreen daily, avoid direct and extended sunlight. Focus on hydrating and moisturizing products and avoiding active ingredients, scrubs, acids, and toners.

    7+ Day After Microneedling

return to your regular skincare routine.
